Argentina's Seven Lakes Route is better known as a scenic drive, but with linked footpaths and side hikes it becomes an excellent light multi-day walking trip through northern Patagonia's lake district. It is less wild than Torres del Paine and more about forests, blue lakes, and relaxed mountain towns.

Getting There

Use San Martin de los Andes or Villa La Angostura as a base and link trail sections around the lake district with short transfers.

Suggested Itinerary

  1. Treat it as a 2- to 4-day linked walking trip rather than a strict continuous thru-hike.
  2. San Martin de los Andes and Villa La Angostura work well as start and finish points in either direction.

Season & Permit Notes

Season notes: Southern Hemisphere summer is most comfortable. Late spring and early autumn are quieter but less settled.

Permits: There is usually no single thru-hike permit; planning focuses more on park access, transfers, and lodging.

Supplies & Accommodation

Supplies: Supplies are easy thanks to nearby towns, making it possible to walk light and stay in settled areas each night.

Accommodation: Accommodation is typically in comfortable inns, cabins, and guesthouses around the lake towns.
